On Friday, Oct. 28, a School Resource Officer at Unity Reed High School on Rixlew Lane in Manassas determined that two minors were in possession of a weapon on school grounds at different times.
A spokesperson for the Prince William County Police Department said that the initial investigation found that in the afternoon of Wednesday, Oct. 26, a firearm was exchanged between two 14-year-old boys while on campus.
School security was notified, according to police, and the firearm was recovered without incident.
Officials noted that the weapon was never brandished toward other students nor was there any active threat at the school.
While investigating the incident, the School Resource Officer determined that there was an additional incident on Tuesday, Oct. 25 involving one of the teens and the same firearm in the Manassas area.
Investigators did not release any details or identifying information about either teen.
On Friday afternoon, both teens were arrested and charged with possession of a firearm on school property, and possession of a firearm by a juvenile. One was also charged with reckless handling of a firearm.
Both are being held at the Juvenile Detention Center in Prince William County and their initial court dates are pending.
